Suite: 75 for T.J. was written as a festchrift for T.J. Anderson, in honor of his 75th birthday. T.J. was one of my first composition teachers, and he has remained an important mentor, colleague, inspiration, and friend throughout my career.

The suite is based on a series of 75 pitches drawn at random, used in order, once throughout each movement. Each movement uses a different transformation of the series (i.e. original, inversion, retrograde, and retrograde-inversion). However, this systematic structure does not govern the overall style; it is simply a background rubric, providing structural coherence as well as numerological connotations. Rather, each movement concisely presents a different idea and character, brought together as little suite of contrasting bagatelles.
